In all, only 68 universities that have made “the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus or facilities” made the list. The rankings were based on the responses of experts who answered the magazine's annual peer assessment survey.

- Boise State's College of Engineering was ranked among the best undergraduate engineering programs in the nation. It shares the No. 16 ranking among public institutions and is tied for 42nd among all undergraduate engineering programs with California State University-Sacramento, Maine Maritime Academy, Norwich University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Purdue University-Calumet and University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (USNWR 2011).

- Boise State University College of Business and Economics Graduate Programs is included in the Princeton Review “2010 Best Business Schools” ranking.
