The University of Kansas (KU) is a comprehensive educational and research institution offering a wide range of high quality academic programs.

The National Science Foundation and the Carnegie Foundation both have classified KU as a top research university, and it has been a member of the elite Association of American Universities since 1909.

Founded in 1891, KU Endowment is the oldest foundation of its type at a U.S. public university and one of the largest.

- Ranked 43rd among national public research universities for the 2008 fiscal year, according to an annual survey from the National Science Foundation.

- University of Kansas is recognized as a top 5 university among large institutions in 12 out of 27 categories in the report, "2008 Great Colleges to Work For", a national survey by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

- The University of Kansas School of Law is the top law school in the state of Kansas according to the 2008 U.S. News & World Report. KU Law is rated as a top-tier law school at 73rd and rated a "best buy".

- The "MoJo Mini College Guide" includes KU among "10 cool schools that will blow your mind, not your budget". In 2007-08, KU students on the Lawrence campus received more than $181 million in financial aid from private and public funds.

- The School of Law has been named a Best Value Law School by National Jurist magazine.

- The School of Architecture and Urban Planning was named the best in the Midwest and ranked 6th among all undergraduate architecture programs in the U.S in 2007, according to the DesignIntelligence, which annually publishes "America's Best Architecture and Design Schools".

- The Milken Institute placed KU 9th in the world for driving new patents through the innovation pipeline. As of fiscal year 2006, KU holds 45 U.S. patents and has 53 pending.
