Best National Universities 2011

US News & World Report has just released the rankings of Best National Universities for 2011. Harvard remained as the Number One National University in the country, followed by Princeton (2nd).

The Top 10 national universities are:

4 Columbia University (NY)
5 Stanford University (CA)
5 University of Pennsylvania
7 California Institute of Technology
7 Massachusetts Institute of Technology
9 Dartmouth College (NH)

Wake Forest University is ranked 25th among best national universities in U.S. News and World Report's rankings of "America's Best Colleges" 2011 and was again recognized in the magazine for the quality of its undergraduate teaching. It is tied for 25th with the University of California-Los Angeles and the University of Virginia. In addition it is placed 12th among national universities in the magazine's survey of experts asked to identify "schools where the faculty has an unusual commitment to undergraduate teaching".

Michigan Technological University is rated 57th among national public universities. Only two Michigan universities, the University of Michigan and Michigan State, ranked higher than Michigan Tech. It also appeared on a list of “A-Plus Schools for B Students,” a category comprising top-quality universities that also admit a significant proportion of students with ACT scores between 20 and 30, while at the same time maintaining a high retention rate.

The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) is listed at 34th among the top public national universities, the highest-ranked SUNY institution in that category. In the "Best National Universities" category, which includes both public and private national universities, ESF is ranked at 79th. It was also listed among 84 universities in a category called, "A-Plus Schools for B-Plus Students" that recognizes outstanding colleges that admit part of their entering class from among B-plus average students with special qualities and academic interests.
