Massachusetts Institute of Technology took the top spot for its graduate engineering program in the 2011 edition of U.S.News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools”.
The Georgia Institute of Technology's College of Engineering was ranked No. 4 nationwide for the sixth consecutive year. In addition, nine of Georgia Tech's 11 programs have again ranked in the top 10, including industrial (No.1), biomedical (No. 2), civil (No. 3), aerospace (No. 4), environmental (No. 5), electrical (No. 6), mechanical (No. 6), nuclear (No. 8) and materials (No. 8).
Virginia Tech's College of Engineering was placed among the nation's 25 best engineering schools for graduate studies. It was tied for 25th place with Johns Hopkins University and Ohio State University. It was the highest ranked engineering school in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s College of Engineering’s overall graduate program was ranked 43rd among public universities and 73rd nationally. The nuclear engineering graduate program was ranked 9th in the country, rising three spots from last year.
The Texas Tech Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering’s overall graduate program moved up to a ranking of 99th among 198 programs nationwide. The Department of Industrial Engineering is ranked 29th in the Industrial/Manufacturing category and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is ranked 66th in the Electrical/Electronic/Communications category.
