According to the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), Harvard was ranked No. 1 and ahead of Stanford, U Cal Berkeley, Cambridge, MIT, Princeton, Oxford, Cal Tech, Columbia and the University of Chicago.

The University of Wisconsin—Madison was ranked 28th in the world and 21st nationally. It is the third-highest ranking of any Big Ten school, behind the University of Michigan and Northwestern University. Last year, UW–Madison placed 24th worldwide and 18th nationally.

The University of Barcelona (UB) is considered one of the best 200 universities in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2016. It is located between positions 151 and 200 and it is the only Spanish institution included in the ranking. Moreover, the UB continues being one of the 75 top higher education centres in the field of Medicine. The UB is one of the top 200 universities in the fields of Sciences and Life Sciences.

The University of Sydney was ranked 82nd among the world’s top universities in the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities. The University of Sydney’s improvement in global ranking was due to a significant increase in the Highly Cited Researchers criterion.

Deakin University has moved into the 201-300 rank. The announcement firmly positions Deakin in the top 2% of universities worldwide according to every major international rankings organisation.
