Australia has six universities ranked in the global top 100 according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2016, with Melbourne ranking 1st in Australia and 40th in the world.

The University of Queensland has rocketed up the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities, to rank 55th globally and 2nd in Australia. In the University’s best result since the annual ranking began in 2003, UQ this year leaps 22 places (up from 77) after it jumped from 85 last year.

Curtin University has significantly improved its position in the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). Curtin’s rank is estimated to be 211th in the world in the 2016 ARWU rankings, up from 270th in 2015, and is now placed 10th in Australia.

Deakin University made a great improvement in the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), ranked 201–300 gloablly. The announcement firmly positions Deakin in the top 2% of universities worldwide according to every major international rankings organisation. In 2014, Deakin entered the ARWU rankings for the first time and earned the initial ranking of 401-500.
