Founded in 1854, Central Methodist University (CMU) is a private liberal arts university located in Fayette, Missouri, USA. It was formerly known as Central Methodist College.

Central Methodist University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and approved by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church. The Athletic Training Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The CMU Nursing Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.

The Swinney Conservatory of Music has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music since 1950. The professional education programs are approved by Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
