Established in 1984, City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is one of the best universities in Hong Kong, consistently placed among the world top leading institutions by a number of international league tables.
All bachelor’s degree and postgraduate programs are organized under the Colleges and the Schools: the College of Business, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Science and Engineering, the School of Creative Media, the School of Law, the Division of Building Science and Technology, and the Community College of City University.
The College of Business consists of the following departments: Accountancy, Economics and Finance, Information Systems, Management, Management Sciences, and Marketing. The Faculty of Business of CityU has become the only business school in the Greater China region to be triple accredited. It is accredited by AACSB International, EQUIS and AMBA.
The School of Law was the first in Hong Kong to offer the J.D. (Juris Doctor), it has also developed expertise in a range of fields including commercial law, environmental law, Hong Kong Basic Law, etc.

- According to the Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings, it is ranked 124th in 2009, 147th in 2008, 149th in 2007, 154th in 2006.
- Three subjects are placed within the Global Top 200, with the Engineering and IT breaking into the top 100, placed at 92nd, while Social Sciences rated 123rd globally, and Arts & Humanities rated 138th in the world (THES 2009 survey).
- 18th in Asia and 6th in the Greater China Area in the Asian University Rankings published by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) in 2009.
- No. 1 in Hong Kong for engineering research papers according to a survey released by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (2009).
- Placed as one of the Top 3 Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences in Greater China (Academic Ranking of World Universities 2008).
- Placed in the range of 42-68th in the ranking of Top 100 Institutions in Asia (ARWU 2008).
