United States Military Academy (also known as USMA, West Point) is the best ranked public college in both the US News and Forbes.com. It is a four-year coeducational federal service academy located at West Point, New York. West Point is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Forbes.com has ranked New College of Florida among the top five public colleges in America for the second consecutive year. In its 2009 report, New College was also named the 2nd "best college buy" (behind Berea College) in the nation among all public and private colleges. It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of College and Schools (SACS).

The College of William & Mary is the second-oldest institution of higher education in the country. It is ranked as the 4th and 6th best public university in America, according to the 2009 Forbes and 2010 U.S. News & World Report, respectively. In the Forbes 2010, W&M is ranked as the second-best public and fifth overall among all colleges and universities in the South. In the Princeton Review: Best Value Colleges (2009), W&M is ranked 3rd among top 50 public universities.
