N8 Group Universities & Rankings
N8 Group is formed by eight research-intensive universities in northern England:
Durham University
- Durham is the No. 1 university in the UK for its impact of scientific research, according to the Times Higher Education Supplement's citation rankings.
Lancaster University
- 75% of Lancaster University Management School’s research activity has been assessed as world leading or internationally excellent (RAE 2008).
University of Leeds
- A top research university in the country, rated 14th in the UK for research quality and 8th place for research power (RAE 2008).
University of Liverpool
- 41 departments gained the ratings of 4, 5 and 5* in the HEFCE Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2001.
University of Manchester
- rated 3rd nationally in the research power ranking (uses a quality score (grade point average) times the number of full-time equivalent staff submitted).
- rated 4th based on the overall volume of staff within 4* quality levels.
Newcastle University
-40 areas of research gained the top ratings of 4, 5 and 5* in the RAE 2001.
University of Sheffield
