University Admission Requirements for STPM Graduates
STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia), or the Malaysian Higher School Certificate, is Malaysia’s pre-university qualification, which is widely regarded as equivalent to the GCE A-Level qualification in the United Kingdom.

For example, applicants for the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at UM must have achieved a minimum CGPA of 3.00 in their STPM, with a grade of B in subjects such as Mathematics T and Physics. In addition, students must have a B grade in one of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Furthermore, applicants are required to obtain at least Band 3 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).
2.Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is another renowned public university that offers a wide range of undergraduate programs for STPM or equivalent holders. For instance, applicants for the Bachelor of Human Development Science must have passed the STPM with a minimum CGPA of 2.00, a grade C in Pengajian Am (General Studies), and a grade C in two other subjects (with a CGPA of 2.00 or above).
3. Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)
Students with an interest in Information Technology can apply for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information Technology at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). This course aims to develop graduates who possess competitive knowledge, principles, and skills to design, implement, and manage IT solutions. The general academic requirement for UUM’s undergraduate programs includes passing three STPM subjects with at least a C grade in General Paper and two other subjects. Alternatively, applicants with equivalent qualifications, such as A-Levels, are also eligible to apply.
4. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
For local students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Arts program at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), the requirements include having an STPM certificate, A-Levels, Pre-U, Diploma, or Foundation qualifications with a minimum CGPA of 2.00. Additionally, students must have at least a grade C in General Knowledge and two other subjects. The Malaysian University English Test (MUET) requires a minimum Band 2, and applicants must also have passed SPM in four subjects, including Bahasa Melayu and Sejarah (History).
5. Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)
Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) offers various business-related courses, including a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours), Bachelor of International Business (Honours), and Bachelor of Economics (Honours) in Financial Economics. STPM applicants for these courses must have at least two subjects with a grade C in their STPM results.
6. Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) offers numerous undergraduate programs, particularly in the fields of engineering and petroleum studies. Applicants for programs such as Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Petroleum Geoscience must have obtained at least a grade C in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in their STPM results. The university accepts STPM, A-Level, and other equivalent qualifications for entry into these highly competitive programs.
7. Multimedia University (MMU)
Students interested in pursuing a career in business management can apply for the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) degree at Multimedia University (MMU). To be eligible for this program, STPM applicants must have at least a grade C in two subjects (with a GP of 2.00 or above) and must have passed Mathematics and English at the SPM level or equivalent.
