The University of Auckland was rated as New Zealand’s leading university (No. 1) by QS World University Rankings 2016-2017. It was placed 81st, up from its 2015 position of 82nd. No other New Zealand university was ranked in the top 100. Other top-ranked NZ universities include:

Victoria University of Wellington:
Victoria moved up one place to an overall rank of 228th out of the more than 3,800 universities examined. Of particular note is the University’s rise in the academic reputation indicator and the citations per faculty indicator. Victoria’s academic reputation rank improved significantly from 218 last year to 201 this year and the citations per faculty rank improved from 265 to 254.

University of Waikato:
Waikato is now placed 324th in the world, up from 338th in 2015. In 2014 Waikato was ranked in the 401-410 band of universities.

Lincoln University:
Lincoln University improved on its ranking of 373rd equal last year, to come in at 343rd equal on the 2016 world scale. It maintained the highest ranking in New Zealand for low teacher-student ratios. It was ranked 2nd, behind the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) for its ability to attract international students.
