Cambridge took the top spot in the 2016 Complete University Guide league table, ahead of Oxford (2nd) and London School of Economics (3rd).

The University of Warwick maintained its previous position of 7th place in the latest league table published by the Complete University Guide, and once more top the list of leading universities in the West Midlands region. In the accompanying tables covering 67 separate subjects, Warwick appeared in the top 10 nationally for 19 subjects, and topped the rankings for Drama, Dance and Cinematics, while both Economics and American Studies were ranked second in the country.

Lancaster University moved up 2 places from 11th to 9th nationally. In addition, Lancaster appears in national top 10 listings for 14 of the 33 subjects it offers, topping the table for Social Work. Other subjects ranked in the top 10 are Accounting and Finance, Art and Design, Business and Management Studies, Communications and Media Studies, Drama, Dance and Cinematics, French, General Engineering, Iberian Languages, Italian, linguistics, Marketing, Social Policy and Religious Studies.

Loughborough University has risen to 11th place (from 13th) in The Complete University Guide league table for 2016. Loughborough also remained the leading university in the East Midlands, and featured in the top 10 nationally for 11 subject listings, taking 1st place in Librarianship and Information Management.

The University of Sussex has risen 17 places, ranking 21st out of 126 UK higher education institutions. The rankings also showed that Sussex has moved ahead of many other research-intensive universities including Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield.
