The following are the best universities in the state of Missouri:

Avila University - The University established Kansas City's first baccalaureate degree program in nursing in 1948 and was accredited by the National League for Nursing in 1966.

Central Methodist University - It is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities, and ranked among the Midwest's leading private universities.

Drury University - It has been ranked No. 1 on the "Great Schools at Great Prices" list for Midwest institutions and No. 11 on the list of top schools in the Midwest.

Fontbonne University - It is listed in Tier 1 in the category "Regional Universities (Midwest)" in the annual U.S.News & World Report's "America's Best College" survey.

Maryville University of St. Louis - It has been placed among the top 30 universities in the 'Regional Universities - Midwest' category.

Missouri Southern State University - It has been included in the 2011 list of Military Friendly Schools by G.I. Jobs. Schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community colleges and trade schools.

Missouri State University - It was selected for The Princeton Review's 2010 list of “Best Colleges: Region by Region” for the eighth consecutive year.

Missouri Western State University - The University is an active participant in the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) of the Higher Learning Commission. It also has the All-Steinway School designation.

Northwest Missouri State University - Northwest was accepted as an HLC AQIP institution in 2005, and served as a pilot institution in the development of AQIP in the late 1990s.

Washington University in St. Louis - A number of WUSTL programs received strong ratings within in the ranges provided by NRC (National Research Council).
