University of Maryland--Baltimore County is the No. 1 “up-and-coming” school in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2012 best colleges rankings, followed by George Mason University in 2nd place.

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is ranked 3rd among national universities in the “Up-and-Comers” category in the U.S.News & World Report's 2012 edition of Best Colleges. Three IUPUI programs were ranked in the so-called “Programs to Look For” category: First-year experience, Service Learning and Learning Communities.

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is the No. 4 “up-and-coming” school in the nation. The University achieved its highest ranking in the “up-and-coming” list, which recognizes national universities that “recently made the most promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus or facilities.” UCF tied for 4th position with Clemson University in South Carolina on the list of national schools to watch.

Hamline University is ranked 1st in Minnesota and 11th among 143 universities in the Midwest region in the magazine's Best Regional Universities category. In the U.S. News sections entitled “Strong Commitment to Teaching” and “Up and Coming Schools,” Hamline University is ranked 5th in the Midwest.

Biola University has earned a spot in the top tier of the “Best National Universities” category, and for the second year in a row listed as one of the country's “Up and Coming” National Universities.
