Villanova University is ranked No. 1 among the best regional universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report in its 2012 "America's Best Colleges” rankings. Regional universities are ranked on a number of criteria including peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, student selectivity, faculty resources, financial resources and alumni giving. Fairfield University is ranked 2nd in this category, followed by Loyola University Maryland in 3rd place among the top tier regional universities in the North.
The University of Scranton is ranked 8th among the top 10 “Best Regional Universities in the North,” marking the 18th consecutive year that Scranton was placed in the top 10. It is also named among only 45 colleges in the nation recognized by U.S. News as “Up-and-Comers.” For the eighth consecutive year, U.S. News listed Scranton among “Great Schools at a Great Price.”
Canisius College achieved its highest ranking in college history with the 20th spot in the top tier of U.S. News 2012 rankings of America's Best Colleges, Regional Universities – North. The college's scores increased in the categories of peer assessment, average graduation rate and average freshman retention rate. It also moved up four places in “Great Schools, Great Prices” for regional universities in the North, ranked 6th.
Bryant University is placed among the region's top 20 universities, coming in at No. 16 in the Regional Universities (North) category. This is the seventh consecutive year Bryant has been ranked among the top 20 schools in its category.
Nazareth College is ranked 26th in the Best Regional Universities-North, which covers 11 states and the District of Columbia. The College also made the lists for the guide's A+ Schools for B Students, and Great Schools, Great Prices which looks at the school's academic quality and the net cost of attendance for a student receiving the standard financial aid.
