In another world ranking compiled by the Shanghai Jiaotong University: Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), King Saud University remains the Islamic world's leading university for 2011. It is placed among the best 300 universities in the world, at No. 261, a standing never achieved by any Arab university.

The ARWU is considered to be one of the most influential international university rankings, along with the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. In the 2010 QS World University Rankings, KSU is ranked 221st overall in the world and among the world top 300 for a number of subjects including: Life Sciences (58th), Arts & Humanities (101st), and Social Sciences (233rd).
