The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is the largest modern University in Scotland, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Business, Education, Engineering, Science, Health, Nursing, Midwifery, and more. The present institution dates from August 2007, following the merger of the University of Paisley with Bell College to create Scotland’s biggest modern university with campuses in Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley.

It is the largest provider of Health, Nursing & Midwifery programmes in Scotland. The BSc Midwifery programme was the first in the UK to receive a UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) certificate of commitment and, in 2008, was joint first to achieve full accreditation for ensuring the midwifery students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to advise and support breastfeeding mothers.

University of the West of Scotland was the first, and is the largest, provider of the Diploma in Public Service Leadership nationally, delivering it in partnership with experienced public sector managers/trainers from Learning & Development Associates.
