National University of Sciences And Technology (NUST) Islamabad is the top ranked university in Pakistan (rated 1st in the country and 84th in Asia) according to the QS Asian University Rankings 2011.

University of Karachi is ranked 2nd in the country and 138th in Asia, while both the University of Lahore and University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore are rated in the range 171-180th regionally.

In the subject rankings of Arts and Humanities, two institutions in Pakistan are ranked in the Asian top 100: NUST Islamabad (69th), and University of Karachi (70th). In the subject of IT & Engineering, NUST Islamabad is ranked 1st in the country and 58th in Asia, ahead of University of Engineering & Technology Lahore (61st regionally).

In the subject of Social Sciences, University of Karachi is the top university in Pakistan (77th regionally), ahead of NUST Islamabad (102nd), University of Lahore (174th), University of Engineering & Technology Lahore (192nd).

In the subject of Natural Sciences, University of Karachi is placed in the top 50 in Asia (44th), ahead of NUST Islamabad (73rd), and UET Lahore (109th). NUST Islamabad is the highest ranked university in Pakistan in the subject of Life Sciences and Medicine (53rd regionally), ahead of University of Karachi (60th), UET Lahore (133rd), University of Lahore (153rd).
