Founded in 1901, Millikin University is a private comprehensive 4-year university offering a wide range of majors through the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Fine Arts, College of Professional Studies, and Tabor School of Business.

Millikin University is accredited by the Higher Learning commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The business programs in The Tabor School of Business are accredited by the Association of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (ACBSP). The School of Education is accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education. The School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The School of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

The Chemistry program, in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry is accredited by the American Chemistry Society. The Athletic Training major, in the College of Professional Studies, Department of Exercise Science is accredited by the Commission of Accreditations of Athletic Training Education.
