The College of Commerce was the first business school in downtown Chicago. The College of Law was one of the first law schools in Illinois to admit Jewish and women students. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA&S) is the oldest and largest college at DePaul. The School of Music is the first educational institution to receive the Living Art of Music Award (LA MA) from the Chicago Federation of Musicians.

- DePaul's service learning program was honored by U.S.News & World Report in its “America’s Best Colleges 2009” edition of the nation's top 25 service learning programs. It was the only Illinois university honored for service learning.
