Northern Arizona University (NAU) is a leading public university in the United States. It is a high research university with main campus located on 740 acres in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The U.S. Distance Learning Association honored NAU's Distance Learning with the 2007 “21st Century Best Practices Distance Learning Award”.

- Placed among Tier 2 National Universities by US News & World Report 2011.

- Northern Arizona University's W.A. Franke College of Business is listed among 15 graduate schools nationwide that students rated most highly for its marketing preparation, according to the April edition of Entrepreneur magazine (2010).

- Northern Arizona University has been ranked as one of the Top 100 best public colleges in the United States and as one of the nation's best values, according to Forbes. It was ranked 78th on the magazine's list of the Top 100 Best Public Colleges and 64th on Forbes list of America's Best College Buys.

- According to Diverse Issues in Higher Education's 'Top 100 Degree Producers 2009,’ NAU is ranked 1st in the country for awarding master's degrees to Native Americans.

- Northern Arizona University is ranked highly among the top 100 hospitality and tourism programs in the world for research in the industry, according to the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research. The School of Hotel and Restaurant Management is ranked 11th in the world for research output over a 15 year period—1992 to 2006—making it the top-ranked undergraduate program on the list in the journal's November 2009 issue.

- 10th on the Peace Corps' 2007 top 25 list of volunteers produced by medium-sized colleges and universities.

- In November, 2007, the School of Forestry was ranked 10th in the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index for forestry.

- NAU is ranked 93rd out of 245 institutions that were evaluated in 'Washington Monthly' ratings (2006).

- The undergraduate engineering program is ranked 32nd in the nation, according to the U.S.News ranking of Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs 2006. The rankings are based on undergraduate programs accredited by ABET whose highest degree is a bachelor's or master's degree.

- Placed in the top 40 of academic institutions in the United States and Canada for research productivity in the field of conservation biology. It is rated No. 37 overall in research productivity and 27th in total number of publications in the first-ever comprehensive ranking of scholarly productivity in conservation biology. The ranking, which compared 315 universities and colleges from 2000-2005, appeared in the October issue of Conservation Biology.

- According to the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine, it is ranked 15th in the country for graduating Latinos with master's degrees and 68th for undergraduates.
