Founded in 1701, Yale University is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the US. It is a member of the Ivy League (an athletic conference comprising eight most prestigious universities in the United States).

The University is regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Other accreditations include the National Architectural Accrediting Board, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, etc.
