The University of Western Australia (UWA) is one of the best ranking universities in Australia. Established in 1911, it is the oldest and most prestigious institution of higher learning in the state of Western Australia. It has one of the most picturesque university campuses in the country.

The university is a member of the prestigious Group of Eight -  a coalition of Australian top 8 research universities. It is also known as a "Sandstone University".

Several residential colleges are situated close to the main campus, including St Catherine's College, St Thomas More College, Currie Hall, Trinity, and St George's College.

- Placed among the world's top 100 institutions in THE-QS World University Rankings. It is rated 64th in 2007, 83rd in 2008 and 84th in 2009.
