The University of Hong Kong (informally Hong Kong University, or HKU) is one of the best ranking universities in the world. Founded in 1911, it is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong. - Rated No. 1 in Asia, according to the Asian University Rankings 2009. It had the best peer evaluations in Asia for research, and the best score in Asia for the number of citations of research papers.

- 24th in the world in the 2009 THE - QS World University Rankings, making it the best university in Hong Kong and China, and the second best in Asia (behind University of Toyko). It was ranked 33rd in 2006, 18th in 2007 and 26th in 2008.
