How do Indian universities perform in international rankings? According to the Asian University Rankings published by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is the highest ranked institution from India, with an equal rank of #30 in Asia (joint 30th with MAHIDOL University Thailand).

A total of 11 universities from India made it to the Asian Top 200 list, with IIT Bombay in the first position nationally, followed by IIT Kanpur in second place and IIT Delhi in third place.

In the list of Top 100 Asian universities, India has seven institutions with four in the Top 50. Following is the list of best performers (Top 5 Indian institutions in the 2009 League Table):

IIT Delhi is ranked 1st in India and 154th in the world by the THES 2008 Rankings. IIT Bombay is ranked second nationally and 174th globally.

In the Webomertrics Ranking of Top Asian Universities 2008, IIT Bombay rated 39th in Asia, followed by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 48th position.
