In the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2001, the Department received a top 5* rating in applied mathematics and 5 in pure mathematics. In the RAE 2008, Warwick Pure Mathematics was placed second highest in the UK, while Applied Mathematics rated equal first (with Oxford and Cambridge) for the proportion of its research that received the top “world-leading” rating, and came 7th overall in the UK.
