Every year there are some rankings of both undergraduate and graduate Architecture programs in America. The Design Intelligence, an architecture based magazine, has produced one of the most popular architecture school rankings that best prepare students for choosing the right program of study. The ranking is based on a survey of 400 firms who assessed graduates hired during the five years time.
According to the latest rankings by Design Intelligence, the best American university for undergraduate Architecture program is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (also known as Virginia Tech), followed by Cornell and Syracuse University.
Founded in 1872, Virginia Tech is one of the best national universities in the USA, ranked 71st among all national universities by US News and World Report. Its College of Architecture and Urban Studies (CAUS) was ranked first among all public and private universities by the Design Intelligence 2008 report, moving up from fourth position in the 2007 ranking. Currently CAUS enrolls about 2,000 students across its four main schools - the Myers-Lawson School of Construction, the School of Public and International Affairs, the School of Architecture and Design, and the School of Visual Arts.
The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) at Cornell University is highly regarded as one the best architecture departments in the USA and the world. It offers a five-year program in Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture) and a four-year Bachelor of Science program with concentrations in either Urban and Regional Studies or History of Architecture. According to the annual survey by Design Intelligence, Cornell undergraduate architecture program was ranked first for the three consecutive years (2005, 2006 and 2007) and it was in the second position in the 2008 report.
