University of Nebraska Kearney (UNK), founded in 1905 as the Nebraska State Normal School at Kearney, is highly regarded as one of the best universities in the Midwest. It has one of the lowest tuition rates in the country.

The University has the following colleges: the College of Fine Arts and Humanities, the College of Natural and Social Sciences, the College of Business and Technology, and the College of Education.

University of Nebraska Kearney is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. UNK business programs are accredited by AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International).

Many UNK programs have a job placement rate that is almost 100%, including Graphic Arts, Industrial Technology, Speech and Hearing Disorders, Accounting, etc. UNK's undergraduate research program is a national model. More UNK students have participated in the annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) than any other university in Nebraska.
