Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München is the best German university in Physics, rated 25th worldwide, according to the Shanghai academic ranking of world universities by subject.
The criteria taken into account for the ranking include: publications in international science magazines (weighted 40 percent), researchers awarded with a Nobel Prize or Fields medal (30 percent), most frequently quoted scientists (20 percent), and research achievement in relation to an institution's size (10 percent).
