Best Graduate Engineering Schools 2013
Massachusetts Institute of Technology is ranked No. 1 among the best graduate engineering schools, according to the U.S. News and World Report's America's Best Graduate Schools 2013 survey. Stanford University is ranked No. 2 and the University of California--Berkeley at No. 3.
The A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland moved into the No.18 spot from No. 22 among all U.S. schools with graduate engineering programs. Nine individual disciplines are also ranked: Aerospace Engineering at 8th; Biological/Agriculture at 23rd; Biomedical/Bioengineering improved at 30th for 2013; Chemical Engineering at 39th; Civil Engineering at 24th; Computer Engineering at 16th; Electrical Engineering at 16th; Materials Science at 24th and Mechanical Engineering at 18th.
Virginia Tech's College of Engineering is ranked among the nation's 25 best engineering schools for graduate studies. It is rated 24th, the same slot it held in the previous annual report. With more than 2,000 graduate students, the College of Engineering's graduate program ranks as the highest ranked engineering school in Virginia. Among fellow public universities, it is placed among the top 15 universities in the nation.
Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) graduate programs in engineering, from the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, is ranked 88th in the nation. Programs at engineering schools that grant doctoral degrees were surveyed. Engineering school deans and deans of graduate studies rated the programs' overall quality.
Michigan Tech's College of Engineering is rated 88th of 194 graduate engineering programs ranked nationally, well within the top half of programs nationwide. Tech shares this ranking with the University of New Mexico, Rochester Institute of Technology, the University of Alabama-Huntsville and the University of Texas at Arlington.
