Established in 1899, Northern Michigan University (NMU) is a leading public university located in Marquette, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is the eighth oldest of Michigan's 15 public universities.

Northern Michigan University is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The School of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation in Teacher Education. The bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
