According to the 2011 QS Asian university rankings, Seoul National University is the highest ranked institution in Korea, South (rated 6th in Asia), ahead of KAIST - Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (11th in Asia), and POSTECH (12th in Asia).

In another international league table (Ranking Web of World Universities July 2011), Seoul National University is also ranked No. 1 among the top ranked universities of Republic Of Korea, followed by KAIST (2nd in Korea and 279th in the world), and Yonsei University (3rd in Korea and 470th in the world). A total of 8 Korean universities ranked in the global top 1000. the others are: Korea University (515th globally), Pohang University of Science & Technology (537th globally), Hanyang University (664th globally), Sungkyunkwan University (699th globally), and Kyungpook National University (747th globally).
