Eight Australian universities were placed in the World top 100 with ANU rated the best in the country and 17th globally, according to the THE - QS World University Rankings 2009:

In 2008 nine universities were placed in the top 200 globally, with ANU placed 1st nationally and 16th in the world, followed by Sydney and Melbourne.
