Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is rated No. 4 among Master's of Fine Arts (MFA) programs in the 2012 edition of Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News Media Group. In addition to being ranked 4th overall for its Master's of Fine Arts programs, MICA is also ranked 4th in painting/drawing, 6th in graphic design and 7th in sculpture in the specialty rankings. U.S. News & World Report honors MICA along with other prominent art schools such as Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Yale University and School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Alfred University's MFA program is ranked No. 1 for ceramic art, and No. 2 for glass art (tied with Rochester Institute of Technology). Overall, the MFA program is ranked 10th in the nation, making it the highest-ranked art program among all schools in New York State. The School of Art and Design, which is part of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, offers undergraduate concentrations in drawing, photography, printmaking, graphic design, etc. MFA programs include electronic arts, ceramic art and sculpture, which encompasses glass.

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is among the top colleges and universities in the nation for master’s programs in fine arts, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2012 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools. RIT is ranked 21st among universities offering graduate-level studies in fine arts, with the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences’ programs in glass and photography earning high prominence. The rankings are based solely on the results of a peer assessment survey, featuring input from art school deans and other top art school academics at 220 MFA programs in art and design from across the nation.
