The University of Malta is a publicly funded educational institution offering undergraduate bachelor's degrees, postgraduate master's degrees and doctorates (PhD). It is the highest teaching institution in Malta.

The University today has the following faculties: Arts; Built Environment; Dental Surgery; Economics, Management & Accountancy; Health Sciences; Education; Engineering; Laws; Information & Communication Technology; Medicine & Surgery; Science and Theology.

The University of Malta is a member of the European Access Network, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, the Utrecht Network, the Santander Network, the Compostela Group, the European Association for University Lifelong Learning (EUCEN) and the International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP).
