According to the QS Top 50 Under 50 2016-2017 Rankings, Nanyang Technological University was ranked No. 1 among the world’s top universities under 50 years old, followed by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2nd place and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 3rd place.

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has retained its position as a top-ranked "young" university in Australia in the 2016/17 QS Top 50 Under 50 ranking, moving from 14th to 8th in the world. Overall the 2016/2017 QS Top 50 Under 50 found that Australia is home to more of the world's strongest recently-formed institutions than any other country, with all of the Australian Technology Network (ATN) universities ranked in the top 50 and three now in the top 20.

Dublin City University has risen two places to 44th in the 2016/17 QS Top 50 Under 50 league table of the top young universities in the world. It is the only Irish university to feature in the rankings.

La Trobe University has ranked for the first time in the QS Top 50 under 50. It rose seven places to 48th in this year’s rankings and is one of the top three young universities in Victoria.
