World University Rankings 2016-2017

According to the QS World University Rankings 2016-2017, Massachusetts Institute of Technology was ranked 1st globally, ahead of Stanford University (2nd) and Harvard University (3rd).

The University of Edinburgh was placed 19th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2016/17. This puts Edinburgh fifth in the UK, and once again in the highest position of any Scottish university. In the expert opinion of almost 75,000 academic peers across the globe, Edinburgh is ranked 24th in the world for research quality.

The University of Bath has maintained its position in the QS World University Rankings at 159 out of 900 of the top universities in the world. Since 2012 Bath has moved up 19 places in the rankings which are based on six key indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per faculty.

The University of Exeter has maintained its strong position inside the top 200 universities worldwide. It has been ranked 164th in the QS World University Rankings 2016/17. The University has also seen a small rise nationally, placed 26th in the UK.

Swansea University has again improved its position among the world’s top universities in the QS World University Rankings 2016/2017, with a new global ranking of 390th. According to the QS rankings indicators, Swansea University was ranked in the top 200 for Int‌ernational Students (the proportion of students that are international); in the top 250 for International Faculty (the proportion of faculty members that are international); in the top 350 for Faculty Student (the ratio between the number of academic staff and number of students); and in the top 400 for Citation by Faculty (the average number of citations obtained per faculty member, and is an estimate of the impact and quality of the scientific work produced by universities).
