McGill University is ranked No. 1 in Canada according to the QS World University Rankings 2016/17. It is ranked 30th globally and has been ranked as the top Canadian university for eleven of the thirteen years that the QS/THE rankings have been published, apart from in 2013 and 2014.

In addition to McGill , there were four Canadian universities in the top 100, including U of T (32nd), University of British Columbia (45th) and the University of Alberta (94th).

The University of Alberta (U of A) secured its place as a top 100 university, jumping two spots to 94th in the 2016-17 QS World University Rankings. In addition, the U of A has fared well in recent rankings. The Faculty of Nursing was ranked the fourth best nursing program in the world, according to QS World University Rankings. The university cracked the top 50 in the world in pharmacy and pharmacology (32), education (41), archeology (42), mining engineering (44) and English language and literature (50).

Western University ranks among the top 200 universities in the QS World University Rankings for the 2016-17 year. It was placed at No. 198, dropping two spots from the 2015-16 year. Western received high scores in the international faculty (a score of 99.2 out of a possible 100) and citations per faculty (a score of 73.5) categories.
