Nanyang Technological University in Singapore was ranked No. 1 and ahead of HKUST (No. 2),according to the QS World University Rankings Top 50 Under 50, a ranking of the world's top 50 universities established within the past 50 years.

In Korea, the highest ranked institution is KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) (ranked 3rd globally), followed by Pohang University of Science and Technology (5th globally).

Eight universities in Australia made the Top 50 list. The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) was named the top-ranked "young" Australian university and amongst the very best of the highest performing younger institutions globally. It has moved from 21st to 14th place globally in the QS World University Rankings Top 50 Under 50.

The University of South Australia (UniSA) has risen 16 places to rank 25th globally. The University of Wollongong (UOW), which gained its independence as a university in 1975, has jumped from 26th spot in 2014 to being judged the 17th best modern university in the world under 50 years of age.
