According to the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2014-2015, California Institute of Technology (Caltech) was ranked No. 1 among he world's top institutions and ahead of Harvard University (2nd).

The University of Texas at Austin has again been recognized as one of the best universities in the world, earning No. 28 place in the 2014-15 Times Higher Education World University rankings. Among public universities in the U.S., UT Austin ranked 6th on the list.

Pennsylvania State University once again is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world, according to the 2014-15 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It was ranked 58th overall worldwide and in the top 100 in the world in four out of six subject areas: 43rd in social sciences, 54th in life sciences, 62nd in physical sciences, and 57th in engineering and technology. Among North American universities, Penn State ranks at 35th overall and 6th in the Big Ten Conference.

Rice University was ranked No. 69 on the list of the top 100 universities overall; among universities in North America, it ranks No. 37. Last year Rice was No. 65 among world universities. Rice was also ranked among the world’s top 40 universities for both physical sciences and engineering/IT in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-15.

The University of Arizona (UA) was ranked No. 86 globally, representing a jump of nearly 20 places from the previous year. The UA was ranked No. 103 among 400 universities in 2013-14.
