Washington Adventist University (WAU) is a Christ-centered institution of higher education located in Takoma Park, Maryland, United States. It was established in 1904 as a coeducational institution known as the Washington Training Institute.
WAU has the following schools: The School of Arts & Social Sciences, The School of Graduate & Professional Studies, and The School of Health Professions, Science & Wellness.
The University also offers External Degree Program to meet the needs of students who find it difficult to finish a college degree during traditional weekday hours. Programs offered include Business Administration (BS), General Studies (BA, BS), Psychology (BA), Religion (BA), etc.
Washington Adventist University is accredited by the Maryland Higher Education Commission, the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The continuing education in nursing program is accredited by The Eastern Regional Accrediting Committee of the American Nurses Association and by the California State Nurses Association. The programs in education for teacher certification are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education, and the North American Division Office of Education of Seventh-day Adventists. The Respiratory Care Program has been granted accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of the Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), in collaboration with the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
