The University of Massachusetts Lowell is a comprehensive University with a national reputation in science, engineering and technology. In 1991, the campus became part of the University of Massachusetts system.

The University has the following schools and colleges: College of Arts & Sciences; Graduate School of Education; College of Engineering; School of Health & Environment; College of Management.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The College of Management is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, considered the gold standard in business education. The nursing program is approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
