Founded in 1866, Towson University is one of the nation's best regional public universities, offering a range of bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in the liberal arts and sciences, and applied professional fields.

The University has the following Colleges: College of Business and Economics, College of Liberal Arts, College of Education, College of Fine Arts and Communication, College of Health Professions, The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics, Honors College, College of Graduate Studies and Research.

The College of Education is the oldest and largest producer of teachers in the state of Maryland. Within the College of Business and Economics, the Department of Accounting is separately accredited as one the best accounting programs in the world. Towson University and the Fisher College’s Department of Computer and Information Sciences have been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Security and Assurance by the National Security Agency.

Towson University is a founding member of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU). It is a member of the University System of Maryland, the nation's 12th-largest public university system.
