University of Toronto is the highest ranked university in Canada, ranked 1st in the country and 19th in the world, according to the 2011-2012 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The rankings use 13 indicators to measure the university's performance in teaching, research, research influence, innovation and international outlook.

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is ranked 22nd among the world's top universities, moving up eight spots from last year's rank of 30th. UBC is also ranked highly in the Shanghai Jiao Tong University rankings of the top 500 universities worldwide: rated 37th globally. In both the Shanghai Jiao Tong and the Times Higher Education rankings, UBC is ranked the second-highest among Canadian universities, just behind the University of Toronto.

McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, has jumped up from 35th to 28th place this year. In addition, the University is placed 17th in the QS world rankings 2011/12, up from 19th the previous year. The University has been placed among the top 25 universities in the world for the eighth consecutive year in the QS rankings.

Queen's University is ranked 173rd in the world in the 2011-2012 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. In another international league table, QS world university ranking 2011/12, Queen's is placed among the top 150 (at 144th). Among employers rating reputation, Queen's scored 51st in the world; in terms of international faculty, Queen's scores 133rd; and regarding citations per faculty, Queen's is at 135th. It also scored within the top 150 for computer science and electrical engineering and in the top 200 for social sciences and management offerings.
