Founded in 1873, Notre Dame of Maryland University (formerly College of Notre Dame of Maryland) is a leader in higher education in Maryland. In 1899, Notre Dame became the first Catholic college for women in the United States to award the four-year baccalaureate degree to the members of the first graduating class.

The School of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). The Accelerated College nursing program is approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
