Newsweek and Kaplan have partnered to produce the college guide since 1996. Following are some of the top performers in the 2010 Newsweek/Kaplan College Guide:

Elon University - It is one of 25 colleges and universities highlighted in the 2010 edition of the college guide. Newsweek-Kaplan named Elon "The Leader in Engaged Learning" and cited the university's "constant innovation and sense of community."

The College of William & Mary - It appeared on three of those top 25 lists, including 9th among “Most Service-Minded Schools,” and 21st in both “Most Desirable Suburban Schools” and “Best Schools for Future Power Brokers.”

Smith College - The 2010 Newsweek/Kaplan college guide cited Smith's Ada Comstock Scholars Program as “rare for a selective liberal arts college—a successful effort to stock the student body with...students far beyond their teenage years.”

Soka University of America - It was named in the "Top 25" in the following categories: Most Diverse Schools; Great Schools with Great Weather; Most Desirable Suburban Schools; Most Desirable Small Schools.

Marquette University - The fall 2010 Kaplan/ Newsweek Finding the Right College for You guide listed Marquette 11th in the "Most Service-minded Schools" category, based on Washington Monthly's rankings. To be eligible, an institution needed to be listed in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, Princeton Review's "Best 373 Colleges," or U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges; have high academic standards; and offer a range of different degrees.
