Best Regional Universities in the West
Trinity University is ranked No. 1 among the best regional universities in the West, according to the U.S. News & World Report magazine in its 2012 “America's Best Colleges” issue. Schools in the “Best Regional Universities” category provide a full range of undergraduate and master's-level programs, but few doctoral programs. Santa Clara University is ranked 2nd in the category, followed by Gonzaga University in third place in the “Best Regional Universities” West category.
Whitworth University moved up three places to the No. 2 spot in the U.S. News rankings of best values in the West, and held its position in the top 10 of the rankings of best regional universities in the West, marking the 12th year in a row that Whitworth has made the top 10 on both lists.
California Lutheran University (CLU) is ranked 18th on the list of top regional universities in the West. CLU's freshman retention rate increased to 80 %. The university's selectivity increased dramatically, with the acceptance rate decreasing from 62 % to 47 %.
George Fox University is ranked 25th out of 118 in the “Best Regional Universities” West category. It is also ranked in the magazine's “Great Schools, Great Prices” listing. George Fox is ranked 13th in its category for value, based on a formula that relates a school's academic quality to the net cost of attendance. This is the 23rd year George Fox has been ranked as one of “America's Best Colleges” by the magazine.
The University of Central Oklahoma is ranked 81st in the list of Tier One institutions in the “Regional Universities: West” category. It is the first time for Central to be listed among the Tier One universities in the institution's history.
