Southern University at New Orleans

Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) is a historically black university located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is part of the Southern University System.

The University has the following Colleges: College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business and Public Administration; College of Education & Human Development (COE); School of Graduate Studies; School of Social Work.

The College of Business & Public Administration offers degrees in Business Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems, and Public Administration. The College of Arts and Sciences brings together a single faculty from the following departments namely: Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences, and the General Studies Program.

Southern University at New Orleans is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The School of Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The College of Education is approved by the Louisiana Department of Education and accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Notable SUNO alumni include: Avery Alexander (former Louisiana State Representative), Bernadine Weaver Kelly (First African-American NOPD Officer to be promoted to Captain), Jon Johnson (former Louisiana State Senator), Louis Westerfield (First African-American Dean, Loyola New Orleans College of Law and University of Mississippi School of Law), etc.

Rankings:

- Placed in Tier 2 in the category "Regional Universities (South)" by US News & World Report (2011).

- SUNO was ranked 1st in Louisiana and 20th in the United States in campus safety according to StateUniversity.com's Safe Schools report in November, 2009.
