Times Good University Guide 2012
According to the Times Good University Guide 2012, Oxford is ranked No. 1 in the nation and ahead of Cambridge (2nd), LSE (3rd), and Imperial (4th). UCL made it to the top 5 nationally, up from 7th in 2011 league table.
Durham University maintained its sixth position in The Times 2012 guide, and was in the top 4 full-subject universities with Oxford, Cambridge and University College London. The University is also ranked No. 1 in Britain for History.
The University of Sussex moved up seven places to 14th from 21st in 2011, making it the biggest climber of any university in the top half of the table. Sussex has four subject areas listed in the UK top 5: Social Work (3rd), Anatomy and Physiology (4th), American Studies (5th), History of Art (5th).
The University of Surrey moved up three places to 29th overall in the Times Good University Guide 2012. In addition, Surrey holds nine subjects with top 10 placings: 1st in Hospitality and Tourism; 2nd in Electrical and Electronic Engineering; 2nd in Food Science; 3rd in Sociology; 4th in Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering; 5th in Mechanical Engineering; 8th in Civil Engineering; 9th in Chemical Engineering; 10th in Economics.
University of Leeds is ranked 30th for 2012 (down from 26th), ahead of the universities of Liverpool (31st) and Manchester (32nd). It is ranked 7th for sports science and 10th for nursing. More detailed analysis shows that Leeds makes the top 10 for universities 'most targeted by key employers' (10th) and number of applications (4th).
Oxford Brookes University improved its position in the 2012 league table. The Times states that Oxford Brookes is “firmly established as England's leading post-1992 university” and moved up three places to reach 48th among UK Higher Education Institutions.
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has improved its ranking from 69th to 61st out of 116 universities and broken into the list of top 10 modern universities in the UK. The Times has confirmed the UCLan's status as the top modern University in the North West for the fifth year running.
